A vision of a hip and interesting place for all of us to hang out....... has been brewing for years.  The community has voiced their craving for a cafe where people might enjoy events, movement and music. It is this vision that brought Jeanette to Alena’s doorstep late one evening in May.  The conclusion of that meeting was the decision to create a cafe for the people we love and to have a great time doing it.) This would be a place that reflects our ideals and nourishes our aesthetics (and of course is an outlet for our charmingly twisted senses of humor.)  Thus the idea of the  Sacred Tart Teahouse  was born!
We need your help and your support in order to create this vision, and we can’t do it without you!  Here are some highlights of our master plan (wha..ha..hahhhaaa):

  • A beautifully funky and lusciously hip environment with comfortable couches and good lighting
  • Free Wi-FI (we are a simple people with simple needs)
  • Open after 6pm (revolutionary for Ukiah)
  • Inviting to all our generations:  young, experienced and in between.  Openly inviting to groups and a great place for meetings
  • Kid-friendly (but not kid centric) with spaces to allow moms to chill and lovely playroom for kids
  • Delicious food and beverages with an emphasis on organic, local sustainably grown food
  • Events, such as movie nights, knitting night, after-hours music and performance.

Whether you are able to help us financially, with a little elbow grease or by chatting us up to your friends …..We would love your support! We have been working hard for months creating a solid business plan and investment ideas, cooking up delicious foods, testing teas and looking at property.   Now we would like make this happen…and all we need is the money to do it!  There are two ways to contribute financially:

  • Become an investor- We are looking for people willing to loan us five grand or more.
  • Become a member-  We are looking for friends who know they will be hanging out at the Sacred Tart regularly and would like to pre-purchase a “co-op style” membership

The next page gives a detailed overview of what to expect.  If you are interested in going to the next level with us please contact us:

We will be happy meet with you or to send you an investor’s packet or a membership application.

We are putting out a call for investors for sums of $5,000 or more.  This money will be treated as a loan and paid back in yearly increments over a 9 year term beginning after the first year of business.  Interest for investments under $10,000 will be paid through offering of:

  1. Free tea and coffee whenever you come in
  2. 40% off on all other menu items
  3. Cost on retail items.
  4. Investors may use the space once a year to host an event, party, performance, art show, or other interest.
  5. Other perks and benefits

Investments of 10 grand or more will be treated as a loan over a 9 year term with the interest rate set at the Mid-Term Applicable Federal Rate (which for January 2009 is 2.1%.)  The investors will be receive payments annually.  Any investor is considered a Teahouse Member until the balance of the loan is paid off (if an investor chooses at the end of the term of their loan to purchase a membership they will receive Founding Membership benefits.)

Because our goal is to be open by April 1, 2009.  We would like to finalize any investments by February 15th so we have enough time to secure a location and any bank loans that are necessary.

We would like to offer a style of membership that is similar to a co-op.  Sacred Tart Teahouse is a for profit business with LLC status, so what we would offer would vary from that of a non-profit.  The drawback of this is that you will not be asked to join a board of directors or discuss rules and regulations or vote on things you really don’t care about or understand.  The benefit is also the above.

To become a Sacred Tart Member you would need to contribute $500 in the Teahouse (for a minimum of 5 years.)  As a “co-op style” member you will receive discounts and get special perks such as:  private tea tastings or special tea parties.

Founding Sacred Tart Membership status will be given to anyone willing to help us out on the ground floor.  We are stoking Founders out with a deluxe membership* which includes:

  • Half price on all non-premium tea and coffee (does not include espresso drinks)
  • 20% off on all other beverages
  • 10% off of food and retail items
  • Discounts on all events

This is a pretty smoking deal considering you can apply to get your membership “share”** returned just like a co-op if you choose (but only after 5 years please…we need a little time to get on our feet.)  If you leave town you can transfer the membership to another person’s name, if you wish…but you’ll have to work out financial details with your friend.  As long as you keep your “share” invested, you will receive your benefits.

Deadline Founding Membership Applications: February 15th.

This a is private offer to friends and family of the teahouse owners.

For a more detailed explanation of membership benefits follow this link: MEMBERSHIP

*After we open, membership benefits will be 10% on brewed coffee and tea, 5% off on other beverages, 5% on food and retail, etc.

** We use the term "share" in quotations because it is not a true share of the business .   What we are proposing is similar to a "coop" in some senses, so the term "share" makes it a little easier to understand.  You would be making contribution to the business and recieving benefits. This is not an offer to sell or a solicitation of any offer to buy any securities.
